The Classification and Use of Common CNC Lathe Cutting Tools

Ⅰ. CNC lathe cutting tools


In addition to machine tool hardware and system software, the most important tool for CNC machine tools is CNC lathe tools. CNC lathe tools are important tools for machining, production and cutting. Cutting tools include blades, abrasive tools, tool holders, and tool holders.


Ⅱ. The classification of CNC lathe cutting tools


1. CNC Lathe tool holder types classified by purpose


Lathe tools are divided into external turning tools, face turning tools, cut-off turning tools, thread turning tools and inner hole turning tools according to their purpose. According to the structure, it is divided into integral type, welding type, machine clamp type and special type.


2. CNC Lathe tool holder types classified by the structure of the turning tool


Integral type: the main body of the tool, suitable for small turning tools and processing non-ferrous metal turning tools.


The welded lathe cutter: suitable for all kinds of turning tools, especially small tools are more prominent.


Machine clamp type: The blade is fixed on the knife bar with a mechanical holder, and the blade can be replaced after being blunt. This kind of tool is commonly used in CNC lathes, and the tool holder is reused.


Special types: The special types include compound cutters, shock-absorbing cutters, etc., which are used in large CNC machining.


3. CNC Lathe tool holder types classified by turning tool material


High-speed steel tool: It is made of high-speed steel and can be continuously ground. It is a general-purpose tool for roughing and semi-finishing.


Cemented carbide tools: The blades are made of cemented carbide and are used for cutting cast iron, non-ferrous metals, plastics, chemical fibers, graphite, glass, stone and ordinary steel. It can also be used to cut difficult-to-machine materials such as heat-resistant steel, stainless steel, high-strength steel, and tool steel.


Diamond lathe tool: It is a blade inlaid with diamond. It has the advantages of extremely high hardness and wear resistance, low friction coefficient, high elastic modulus, high thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, and low affinity with non-ferrous metals.
